In 2010, Mr. Craig Fuqua was named Middle School Band Director for the
Graves County Schools.
Mr. Fuqua began his
teaching career at Caldwell County
Middle School where he taught for five years before moving to
Graves County. At Caldwell, his middle
school bands consistently received high ratings at concert
festival. The Caldwell high school band was also successful; including
the first ever trip to the state marching band finals held in
Louisville, KY.
Mr. Fuqua is a native of Graves County and graduated from GCHS
in 1998. After leaving Graves County he received his Bachelor's
of Music Education degree from Murray State University in 2003.
While at Murray State he performed in many ensembles including
the MSU Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Racer Band, and Brass
Choir. He also was a member of the MSU trumpet ensemble that
placed in the top 10 nationally 3 consecutive years at the
National Trumpet Competition in Washington DC. In 2002 he was
one of five Americans selected to perform at the WASBE conference
in Lucerne, Switzerland with other musicians from around the
world. Mr. Fuqua also had the privilege to perform multiple
times with the Owensboro Symphony.
After graduating from MSU he accepted an assistantship at
Eastern Kentucky University to pursue a Master of Music degree
focusing in trumpet performance. While at EKU he had
the privilege of performing with a variety of ensembles
including the EKU faculty brass quintet, Wind Ensemble,
Orchestra, Concert Band, and Trumpet Ensemble. He also had
the opportunity to perform with the Lexington Symphony on
several occasions.
During his time at MSU and EKU Mr. Fuqua has had the opportunity
to play and work with several world renowned musicians. Some of
these include: Doc Severinson, Bobby Shew, Maynard Fergusson,
Byron Stripling, Eddie Daniels, Thomas Bacon, Allen Vizzutti,
Vince DiMartino, Keith Vincient, Ray Mase, Dave Samuels, and
more.
Mr. Fuqua is very excited to be back in Graves County to help
the very band program he was once in. He currently resides in
the Farmington community with his wife, Angie, and his daughter,
Jaclyn Fuqua. |
